Abstract: This study proposes reflections on the lexicon used among gay men, aged between 18 and over 50, in the city of Belo Horizonte - MG, using a sample of fourteen gay men to build the corpus, with the aim of identifying and analyzing, based on semi-structured interviews, the lexemes used in the speech of this group, pointing out yet another form of language variation, with linguistic facts that can be interpreted as characteristics of gay speech. The hypothesis raised in this research is that the speech used by gay men is a social and sexual mark, and that there is a need to describe the linguistic data used by people from this community. The work is structured from the study of linguistic variation and change, from a perspective originating from Weinreich, Labov and Herzog (2006 [1968]), followed by the presentation of linguistic variation at the lexical level (BIDERMAN, 2001), as well as a historical journey through the structuring of the LGBTQIAPN+ movement in Brazil (GREEN, 2019), including studies on the arrival of this movement in Belo Horizonte (MACHADO, 2007). The way homosexuals speak is a sign of resistance and social identification, since LGBTQIAPN+ people are discriminated against by society and use countless strategies to survive the constant attacks. As well as studying the speech patterns of homosexuals, this research aims to be a way of reducing prejudices against this group in question. The gay men who took part in this research stand out socially because of the way they express themselves and are evaluated on a daily basis by their interlocutors, and these language characteristics deserve the attention of this sociolinguistic study, since the way individuals speak, regardless of color, ethnicity or sexual orientation, should be known and, above all, respected. The identification of the gay lexicon took place through three interviews, through different focus groups - with an age range (18 to over 50), from which seventy-two lexemes were identified, which reveal the search for a certain cultural identity of their own, as a result of the discrimination suffered and still suffered by gays. A comparative spreadsheet was drawn up with information gathered from four Portuguese language dictionaries and it was identified that forty-four lexias have not been dictionarized. This made it possible to create a glossary including these lexias. Finally, it was found that there are differences and similarities that mark the way gay men of different age groups speak, and this demonstrates a strengthening and affirmation that there is a colorful way of speaking.

Abstract: This paper develops a descriptive study on the linguistic behavior of the quantifiers “todo” (every) and “tudo” (everything) in the written form of the Portuguese language. It also conducts a comparative analysis of this behavior based on data collected from two distinct periods: the European variation from the 16th century and the Brazilian variation from the 21st century. To this end, the following works encompassed in the travel literature genre were chosen as corpora: Peregrinação (1614), by the Portuguese explorer Fernão Mendes Pinto, and five works by the journalist from Rio Grande do Sul Airton Ortiz, namely Pelos caminhos
do Tibete (2001), Expresso para a Índia (2003), Egito dos Faraós (2005), Vietnã pósguerra (2009), and Jerusalém (2011). Grounded on Givón's (2001) typologicalfunctional model, this research aimed to map the functioning of the universal quantifiers “todo” and “tudo,” using Oliveira's (2006) feature matrix as an analytical instrument. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate the potential advent of new linguistic facts regarding this category. It also aimed to identify to what extent communicative intentions affect the positions of these qualifiers in the sentence. The database analyzed comprises a total of 2,000 occurrences: 1,000 collected from Peregrinação, and the other 1,000 collected from Airton Ortiz’s works. Two hypotheses guided this study: (a) in the preterite variety, the form “tudo” would be used only for referents with the [ANIMATED] feature, in competition with the conservative neutral form “todo”, but, in the contemporary variety, the form “tudo” would be used for referents with the [ ANIMATED] or [+ANIMATED] feature, there being semantic differences in the use of the quantifier “tudo” in the 16th century compared to the 21st century; (b) the grammaticalization
undergone by the neutral form would have offered new expressive possibilities, which would lead to a modification of the contexts of use of this form, therefore existing discursive differences in the use of universal quantifiers in both synchronies. The findings showed that, in fact, the item “tudo” can be linked to inanimate referents or living beings in contemporary Portuguese; although, this fact does not represent a semantic innovation, because the same type of use was observed in one of the occurrences of the past variety. Finally, there was not only an increase over time in the multiple uses of the quantifiers, but also the emergence of functions not found in the 16thcentury data. Some of these differences occurred due to stylistic characteristics in each author's writing, which highlights changes resulting from the communicative needs of Portuguese speakers.

Abstract: The present study analyzes how the principle of Articulatory Economy can be attested in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), based on spontaneous production data. We assume, therefore, that it is possible to associate articulatory effort with the notion of biomechanical effort and that, in this way, Force can be considered a measure of effort, as suggested elsewhere. Articulatory economy is obtained through operations and processes aimed at reducing this biomechanical effort. Starting from the analysis of movement and number of hands, we aim at identifying possible changes in the articulation of verbs in Libras, in the context of connected signing. To do so, we analyze the production of a signing deaf individual, extracted from the Libras Corpus. Our data indicate that more than 40% of the produced verbs differ from their citation form, which has implications for our understanding of connected signing and raises discussions in both linguistic research and the teaching of Libras. Furthermore, we clearly identify a tendency for changes that, in our analysis, imply a reduction in biomechanical effort, such as: movement reduction; movement suppression; increase in the number of hands; and distalization of movement.
