Preconceito e discriminação social: a realidade de travestis e transexuais no acesso e permanência no trabalho

Abstract

This study studied how prejudice and social discrimination affect the access and permanence of transvestites and transsexuals at work. A qualitative, cross-sectional study under the theoretical contribution of socio-cultural constructions, symbolic violence and structural violence, with the use of semi-structured interviews as a research instrument Six (6) people, including transgender, gay men and women, all residents of a capital city in southeastern Brazil. Realized bibliographical review using LGBT descriptors, employment and prejudice and the key words transvestites, transsexuals and social discrimination. The research was carried out in the databases Bireme, Scielo and Research Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in the Portuguese, Spanish and English languages, for an indeterminate period. The interviews were recorded and transcribed by the researcher himself. After the pre-exploration of the empirical material, 3 (three) categories of analysis were defined, considering the theoretical contribution of the content analysis of Bardin (1977), the guiding questions and the objectives of this study. The analysis of the data was made considering its theoretical basis - sociocultural constructions, symbolic violence and structural violence, besides the bibliographical review. The results showed that prejudice and social discrimination are an exclusionary phenomenon for access and stay in work for transvestites and transsexuals. The difficulties in accessing the population during the study were also evidenced. It was also possible to visualize the scarcity of studies on the subject of work and employability of transvestites and transsexuals in the search for the job in the formal market. It is important the continuity of studies in this subject to greater knowledge of the population in general.
