Abstract: The survival of animals infected by Anaplasma marginale depends on its capacity to maintain the hydroelectrolytic and acid-base equilibrium. The objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of the hydroelectrolytic and acid-base profile during the phases of patency and convalescence in calves affected by anaplasmosis. In this experiment, 12 male calves were used, aged between 3 and 4 months. The animals were divided into two groups: One inoculated (n=6) with 108 erythrocytes containing the isolate UFMG1 of A. marginale, administered intravenously (IV) and the control group (n=6). The animals were evaluated in the pre-patency and patency period when the packed cell volume (PCV) decreased to 80, 60 and 40% of the baseline value. The evaluation was also performed in the convalescence period in which the VG recovered to 60 and 80% of the baseline value. The hemogram, acid-base, hydroelectrolytic and biochemical profile were evaluated. To test the differences between groups, a model of mix effects was adjusted using a statistical software R with a level of significance of 0,05 (p≤0,05). During the phase of patency, a severe anemia happen leading to respiratory alkalosis, with increased blood pH and reduction of PCO2. The anaplasmosis had no influence in the hydroelectrolytic profile in neither patency nor convalescence phase.
