| Abstract: | O presente trabalho buscou compreender o processo de institucionalização dos estudos africanos no Brasil, por meio de uma pesquisa historiográfica, analisando o legado deixado pelos primeiros pesquisadores acadêmicos sobre o continente africano e a influência de seus trabalhos em pesquisas brasileiras posteriores. O exame da historiografia africana produzida no Brasil de 1959 a 1987 evidenciou as formas como os intelectuais brasileiros compreendiam o continente africano, as mudanças de pensamento em relação à África ao longo do tempo e os usos da história pela academia, em seus relacionamentos com diversas esferas dos países africanos. |
| Abstract: | This study aimed understands the process of institutionalization of African studies in Brazil. Through a historical research, we analyze the legacy left by the first academic researchers on the African continent and the influence of their works in subsequent Brazilian researches. The examination of African historiography produced in Brazil from 1959 to 1987, sought to highlight the ways in which Brazilian intellectuals understood the African continent, the changes undergone in the way of thinking about Africa over time, and the uses of history by the academic world, in their relationships in different spheres with African countries. |
