dc.description.abstract | The size and location of the affected area of the ischemic injury after stroke determine directly the clinical outcome of the patient. Biochemical , physiological and functional changes in the peri-infarct area are influenced by neurotrophic factors, mainly by brain -derived neurotrophic factor ( BDNF ) . This is the most widely distributed neurotrophin in the central nervous system (CNS), exerting several functions in brain neuroplasticity . Studies with animal models suggest that changes in extracellular levels of BDNF in the brain tissue after an ischemic insult, could changes in their peripheral circulating levels. Many studies of patients with neurodegenerative diseases show changes in these levels , as in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease . However, there are limited studies measuring levels of BDNF in post-stroke patients in the acute phase and correlate with the clinical outcome . Thus, this study aims to investigate the possible relationship between peripheral BDNF levels with the severity of neurological signs and symptoms, muscle grip strength and upper limb function in inpatients with acute stroke admitted to the unit for this pathology. | pt_BR |
| pt_BR |
