Instalações de artes ao ar livre e suas conexões com o entorno: reflexões acerca da preservação

Abstract

The study analyzes issues related to the preservation of outdoors site-specific installations located at the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the Contemporary Art Route in Açudes Museum, inside the Tijucas Florest. They are ten installations with a diversity of materials and artistic proposes.The main strategy in the preservation of any kind of cultural heritage, from any time in history, is the control of ambient aspects that influences negatively the conservation status of the works. Such control is not possible in outdoor spaces, thus making the process of deterioration constant and inherent. The specific problems concerning contemporary art installations , in which materials do not yet received the same attention and study as the classical materials and in which the artistic proposal are multiple, are dealt with. Facing these issues, that are far away from the models of preservation applied to the classical arts, considerations about what should be preserved and what should decay without interference in the contemporary art installations emerges. In addition, the space in which the installations are located a museum inside a preserved forestall area is responsible to determine the preservation of the works of art in harmony with the preservation of where they are located.The present research utilizes case studies to illustrate the application of the method of analysis: with the risk management tool, the factors that affect the select installations conservation and perpetuation are considered. Beyond the material aspect, the as aesthetic of the installations, their history and their artistic proposal are also studied, showing possibilities of approaches to treatment of the cases studies utilizing international parameters. This work presents methodologies of conservation diagnosis along with a general consideration of the risks that the installations are exposed to, and after that, traces strategies linked to the perpetuation of the whole collection.
