Prática de coleta seletiva de moradores condôminos em um município do interior de Minas Gerais

Abstract

Solid waste and urban cleaning are serious environmental health problems in the city. In this sense, selective collection can act as a strategy to mitigate the impacts caused by the accumulation of waste, whether recyclable or not. The objective of this work was to understand the knowledge of the practice of selective collection of condominium residents of a municipality in the interior of Minas Gerais. This is a qualitative study, with an exploratory descriptive profile, with a transverse character. The population of the study was composed of residents of the municipality of Cláudio-MG. The sample was of convenience, taking into account the residents of the aforementioned city. For the collection of data a survey was made based on a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with residents of the municipality. An interview was also conducted with a semi-structured interview with the coordinator of the Selective Collection Project of the Municipality of Cláudio about the implementation of the Selective Collection project in the municipality. The data were compiled and content analysis was performed. Three main categories were identified, namely: 1) The residents' understanding of the practice of selective collection; 2) How residents often separate waste in their homes; And 3) The importance that the residents attribute to the practice of selective collection. The residents reported situations in their daily life that suggest to carry out the separation of the residues in an adequate way in their residences, besides understanding basic questions about the practice of the selective collection, in concordance with the opinion of the project implementation coordinator. The need for further research in the area is emphasized in order to increase the scope of discussion on this topic, especially to give subsidies to the new governmental policies and practices. It is also highlighted the need for more space for discussion of this issue with the community to capillarity of isolated actions and sensitization of residents.
