Abstract: The common bean plant is an important source of protein in countries in Africa and South America. Brazil stands out in the production and consumption of this legume, occupying the second position worldwide. However, national average productivity is low, with an average of 1,038 kg / ha. Various biotic and abiotic factors contribute to low crop productivity. Among the factors, there is the occurrence of white mold caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Thus, the objective of this work is to characterize elite lineages of common bean plant with grains kind carioca, as to the reaction to white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) in a controlled environment. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Rice and Beans, and were evaluated three trials of grains of the carioca kind: (i) 11 genotypes of VPR testing - varieties of early cycle -; (Ii) 18 genotypes of the VCC testing - varieties of common cycle -; (Iii) testing MBL - potential varieties resistant to white mold. The tests were conducted at home-from-vegetation in a completely randomized design with three replications and four plants per experimental plot. The seeds were pre-germinated and planted in vases of 3.6 L. At 35 days, the plants were inoculated by the modified tube method, at V5 stage. The plants were kept under medium temperature of 19 ° C ± 1 ° C and in three sprinkler systems for eight days: i) relative humidity (RH) of about 100% during the first 48 hours; ii) RH next to 80% for 96 hours; and iii) cutting the sprinkler in the last 48 hours. The evaluation was performed eight days after inoculation (DAI), assigning scores from 1 to 9 to symptoms of the inoculated plants. The obtained data were subjected to analysis of variance and subsequent clustering test Scott-Knott at 5% significance. In VPC and VDC tests, the cultivars and lineages were grouped into three distinct levels of resistance to white mold and in only two levels in the test MBL. The cultivars and lineages of VPR test showed susceptible to white mold. The cultivar IPR Colibri showed the lowest average of severity, 3.45. In the VCC test, the lineages CNFC 15460, CNFC 15504, CNFC 15458, CNFC15497, BRS Style and CNFC 15507 showed average from 2.39 to 3.42, characterized as resistant, being this the test that best represents the bean resistance against S.sclerotiorum. Already in the MBL test, none of the evaluated lineages and cultivars showed resistance. Therefore, only the IPR colibri cultivars and BRS Style were recommended as potential sources of resistance to white mold.
