Aleitamento materno: proposta de intervenção e reflexão das mães lactantes sobre seus benefícios

Abstract

Breastfeeding is an ancient practice with recognized nutritional benefits, immune, cognitive, social and economic. The doubts and difficulties mothers about breast-feeding when unresolved at admission help to increase the frequency of early weaning. Despite the importance of breastfeeding for the child, the mother, the family and society, breastfeeding rates in Brazil are low, especially exclusive breastfeeding. Even with the low rate of breastfeeding in Brazil, data collected during the campaign demographics research in 2006 showed that breastfeeding rates in Brazil have grown since 1999. Over time career in health care, we realize that not only the mother has doubts about lactation, but also a large part of the professionals. The Family Health Program (PSF) provides strategies for promoting and supporting breastfeeding, as it offers families attention to preventive and curative health in their own communities, and we can act effectively on common complications in breastfeeding initiation, as nipple trauma, engorgement and mastitis, often responsible for early weaning. However, even in practice areas of family health teams, has been a challenge to expand the membership of breastfeeding, especially exclusive way, due to misinformation of the lactating mothers on the subject. Before this reality, it is intended with this study to prepare a proposal for intervention based on the literature in order to clarify the most persistent doubts about breastfeeding and thus lead to a broad reflection on the theme for lactating mothers. The information was gathered from databases such as MEDLINE, SciELO and technical publications of the Ministry of Health, using the following Descriptors: breastfeeding, breast milk, weaning, lactation, public health practices, role of the nurse, being the period research from 1980 to 2010.
