Prevenção e controle de infecções relacionadas ao cateter venoso central em unidade de terapia intensiva: revisão integrativa

Abstract

The health related infections are diseases with significant impact in the intensive care unit, which may be related to the profile of inpatient, the actions of the professionals who work there. The central access through the central venous catheter, is widely used in these patients, due to the use of vasoactive drugs and difficult peripheral access. The use of this type of device, when not inserted, a sterile and aseptic way, as well as the lack of care in its handling and maintenance, can result in infections, especially blood stream. The objective is to identify in scientific literature the main aspects related to prevention and control of infections related to central venous catheter, through the Integrative Review. It is an exploratory research of bibliographical, through the integrative review, developed on the basis of already prepared material, consisting of scientific articles, from 2009 to 2013. Finally, based on the analysis made in such research, this study It identified the bloodstream infection related to the type of central venous catheters as a major cause of morbidity and mortality in intensive care unit patients and also the importance of nursing actions in the control and prevention of this type of infection.
