Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate and discuss the oral conditions of the elderly in the Basic Health Unit, meet the needs of oral and action planning of oral health services. We performed a literature review allowed the knowledge of what already exists in the literature on the subject and the different forms of analysis performed. Studies show that despite the progress of the Unified Health System (SUS), access to dental care needs to be extended to the elderly population in the Family Health Program, with the insertion of prosthetic rehabilitation services and the development of oral health programs for bedridden. Concluded about the need to increase access for seniors to health promotion actions to ensure their well-being, improved quality of life and self-esteem, improving mastication, esthetics, and contribute to their integration into the social environment.
