Avaliação da não adesão à realização do exame citopatológico do colo uterino na Unidade de Estratégia de Saúde da Família Beija Flor

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women in the world and its early identification greatly increases the likelihood of healing, being the uterine cervix cytopathological examination the main instrument used in the early detection of this type of cancer. The present study is a result of findings during the elaboration of the situational diagnosis carried out by the Beija Flor Family Health Team (ESF). Among the problems detected, it was prioritized the patients low adherence to the uterine cervix cytopathological examination, an important issue to be faced by the health unit. With that in mind, this study aimed to identify the characteristics that result in women's low adherence to cervical cancer preventive examinations which have been performed in the last four years at the Beija Flor Family Health Program in Uberaba, and prepare an action plan to raise womens awareness on the importance of preventive examination and on the increasing health plan coverage of this preventive examination. This study, of epidemiological and descriptive character, has collected data from three systems: DATASUS, SISCOLO and the database on collections and results of ESF Beija Flor cervical smears, in the period from 2009 to 2012. Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics through absolute frequencies and percentage. The results were presented in tables and charts and pointed out that women's low adherence to preventive examination is related to their health awareness. Therefore, there is a great need to promote development and planning of actions addressed to face this problem, intended to achieve improvement in the quality of life of the target audience, through prevention and promotion of women's health.
