  • enhance the exchange of UFMG with other institutions aiming to promote the democratization of knowledge.
Historic

In 2015, a study was begun to implement the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. One of the main activities was to research the existing initiatives in UFMG. The results showed that between 2006 and 2012, three digital repositories were implemented in the Institution. These repositories had management and operation in distinct units, with no connection between them, namely: Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations (BDTD), Repository of Learning Objects and Digital Repository of UFMG.

With a view to increasing institutional visibility, promoting the accessibility and diffusion of production, Directorate of Information al Governance (DGI) established a partnership with the Directorate of Innovation and Teaching Methodology (GIZ), the Center for Support to Distance Education (CAED), AVAS 21 from Faculty of Medicine, Information Technology Directorate and the Computing Center of UFMG (DTI/CECOM) and the University Library - Library System of UFMG (BU-SB/UFMG). These organizations worked together to elaborate the Project of Implementation of the Institutional Repository, according to the Administrative Rule nº 11 of 2017 (link to pdf document).

The committee is made up of a team of professionals from these organizations, who organized bi-weekly meetings to develop activities, such as: policy-making, technological solutions, metadata customization, marketing, among others.

The management of the RI-UFMG is guided by the Institutional Policy. Its administration is shared, collaborative and participatory, promoting the saving of resources for the Institution.
