Efeitos da fisioterapia na fadiga de indivíduos com doença de Parkinson: revisão da literatura

Abstract

Introduction: Population aging is a phenomenon considered to be one of the most important demographic and social changes observed in most of the world. It is estimated that by the year 2020 the elderly will represent about 12% of the Brazilian population, which will correspond to approximately 25 million elderly people. Aging populations provide greater burden of noncommunicable diseases and diseases, such as chronic degenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD), characterized by the presence of motor and non-motor symptoms. One of the nonmotor symptoms most frequently reported by individuals with PD is fatigue, which negatively affects the activities of daily living and the quality of life of this population. Balanced medication, aiming at motor performance and mood disorders, can reduce the symptoms of fatigue. However, non-pharmacological measures may also be adopted for this purpose. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate, through a review of the literature, the effects of non-drug practices, more specifically, of the physiotherapeutic approaches, on the fatigue of individuals with PD. Methodology: A search was performed on the following databases: MEDLINE (PubMed) e PEDro The key words used were: “Parkinson”, “Fatigue”, “Physical Therapy” e “Exercise”. Results: From the search, 22 studies were identified, of which 6 were selected for complete reading. Five of the six studies analyzed, identified a statistically significant reduction of fatigue after the interventions. Conclusion: Physiotherapeutic interventions can be considered effective for the reduction of fatigue in individuals with PD.
