Abstract: With the aging process, there are large declines in the organic systems. Among them, it is known that muscle power decreases faster than muscle strength in the elderly and is strongly related to functionality. Many studies have shown the benefits of potency training (TP) on improved functionality, but there is no universal consensus in the literature about its indication in the elderly and the PD protocols to be adopted in this target population. Therefore, the objective of the present study is, through an integrative review, to investigate the effects of training of muscular power under the improvement of the functionality in the community elderly. We searched the following databases: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online-MEDLINE (PubMed), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) databases. The search strategy identified 480 articles, after the reading of titles and 62 abstracts were indicated for reading in full, and 8 articles were included in this review. Among them, 7 showed positive effects of PT on improving muscular function in individuals over 60 years of age. In all, the sample consisted of 191 community-aged individuals of both genders and age between 64 and 78 years. The training intensity varied from 30% to 80%, as well as the number of series that was 1 to 3 and repetitions of 8 to 15. All studies used the SPPB, VM and / or TUG tests to evaluate the functionality. TP is a viable and safe intervention option for seniors to maintain and elevate levels of functionality.
