Diabetes Mellitus: adesão ao tratamento e prevenção de complicações dos usuários do Jardim Planalto em Passos, Minas Gerais

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic pathology defined by increased blood glucose due to the inability of the pancreas to produce the amount of insulin which has the function of penetrating the blood sugar into the cells being used as the energy source. If left untreated, diabetes can lead to complications such as limb amputation, renal failure, stroke among other cardiovascular diseases. In this context, the Family Health Strategy is a key element, working to promote health, prevention and recovery of more frequent diseases. This is a reality experienced by the staff of Jardim Planalto, in Passos, Minas Gerais. In view of such relevant figures, magnitude of complications and the difficulty of adherence to treatment by diabetic patients, it was the consensus of the team to elaborate an intervention project to improve adherence to the treatment of Diabetes. The team performed the situational diagnosis using a rapid estimation method that made it possible to evaluate the problems of the area of coverage. Meetings were held to analyze the problems, and a pre-selection considering the coping capacity of the team. To collect the theoretical reference, scientific articles were used in the database of the Virtual Health Library, the Virtual Library of the Nucleus of Education in Public Health and Scientific Electronic Library Online and publications of the Ministry of Health. Intervention was used the Strategic Situational Planning Method to culminate in the implementation of the action plan. It is expected that the implantation of this project may decrease the glycemic indexes of patients with greater adherence to treatment.
