Abstract: | Several cognitive and physiological processes can obtain better performance under temporal conditions in which the organism reaches its apex. Thus, individual differences in circadian rhythmicity should be considered for a more careful analysis of phenomena. The objective of this study was to characterize the chronotype of amateurs of street racing. The sample consisted of 166 volunteers, of both sexes, with previous experience in at least one test of 5 or 10 km in the last 12 months. The chronotype was identified through the questionnaire of Matutinidade-Vespertinidade validated for the Brazilian population and applied via the platform Google Drive - Google Forms. 8 volunteers were classified as moderate evening (6.34%), 54 as indifferent (42.85%), 45 as moderate morning (35.71%), and 18 as extreme morning (14.28%). No individuals were classified as evening extremes. There was no statistical difference (p = 0.203) between the sexes (H = 57.74, M = 59.51). A low positive correlation between chronotype and age (r = .235; p = .002) and a mean negative correlation between chronotype and preferred training schedule (r = - .487; p = .001) was identified. However, no correlation was found between chronotype and sex (p = .092). In general, the indifferent typology of amateur street racing practitioners reflects the behavior of the population. However, attention should be paid to the way chronotypes are classified in the studies, since the model considering five subtypes of chronotype can lead to interpretative errors. We suggest new studies with a design aimed at testing the relationship between chronotype and sex and age. |
