Title: A small inconsistency in salop and stiglitz 1977: an alternative model introducing lost consumers
Authors: Lauro Henrique Amaral Botelho
First Advisor: Rodrigo Jardim Raad
Abstract: O artigo de Salop e Stiglitz 1977 “Bargains and Ripoffs: A Model of Monopolistically Competitive Price Dispersion” apresenta duas “hipóteses” auto excludentes. A presença desse problema leva a resultados que não deveriam ocorrer, principalmente em seu lema 4. Assumiremos que ambas “hipóteses” sejam verdadeiras, não simultaneamente, e exporemos os dois modelos resultantes.
Abstract: Salop and Stiglitz's 1977 paper "Bargains and Ripoffs: A Model of Monopolistically Competitive Price Dispersion" presents two self-excluding "hypotheses." The presence of this problem leads to results that should not occur, especially in its lemma 4. We will assume that both "hypotheses" are true, not simultaneously, and expose the two resulting models.
