Abstract

I sought to develop an interdisciplinary activity on both Natural Sciences and Math with an investigative character that makes possible for the students to build scientific knowledge. This research wanted to observe the potentialities and challenges about scientific knowledge building that had be seen while this activity was developed. The work was planned for and applied in three different 9th grade’s classrooms. The researched students are 13 up to 16 years old, and in each classroom there was 32 students. The activity’s major focus was the bread fermentation’s study, and minor significance was given to the volumetric’s solid objects calculus. Students did some prior research on the subject to have an initial knowledge about it, so they could be able to participate actively on the investigation. Most of the students said they liked very much the activity and presented evidences of scientific knowledge building. In one of the classrooms, however, the student’s indiscipline made the activity little productive, according to their own opinion. In two particular cases, two students showed great interest in the resource subject. Because of this fact, both students were much more involved with the activity and contributed more with it than the usual for them. According to the evidence observed, interdisciplinarity was equally the cause of estrangement from students, and greater source of their engagement in the activity.
