Turismo e desenvolvimento sustentável de cidades: um estudo de caso do Parque Sarah Kubitschek em Brasília

Abstract

In the development of cities, among the various activities that motivate changes and transformations, tourism stands out as the driving force for the promotion of improvement projects in the search for greater competitiveness in the national and international scenario. Due to the growth of this market and with interest to verify the impacts of the activity with respect to the sustainability of cities, this work proposes an investigation in the largest urban park in Latin America: Dona Sarah Kubistchek Park in Brasília (DF). The space is very significant for the history of Brasilia, and the research seeks to evaluate the activities that take place there, its relations with tourism and with local sustainability. In this sense, categories of analysis were used, associated with the principles that govern sustainable tourism in its socio-cultural and economic environmental dimensions. The work was an exploratory and qualitative research and included the evaluation of the existing structure and verification of improvement points capable of making the park a place of significant experiences for the tourist and the local resident; a space to promote quality of life, leisure, social integration and cultural valorization. The research strategies included observation, with the application of interviews to participants engaged in activities at different points in the park. The results of the observations and interviews highlight the desires and needs of the users, pointing to aspects to be improved or implemented such as: the improvement of tourist support infrastructure; offering a greater variety of attractive activities; implementation of a recycling and waste treatment program; promotion of cultural and social events; regularization and expansion of points of commerce and services; among others. It is believed that this work is an incentive for the sustainable development of the Dona Sarah Kubistchek Park and it is hoped that other tourism attractions will be studied and later revitalized in order to promote local quality of life, economic diversity, environmental protection and integration social and cultural development.
