dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION: Skin-to-skin contact offers immediate benefits for the newborn, providing the most effective breastfeeding in the first feeding, strengthening the bond between mother and child. OBJECTIVE: To encourage the practice of skin-to-skin contact between newborns and their mothers immediately after birth as a routine in a reference maternity. METHODOLOGY: This is a research whose steps for the execution of the project were performed as follows: a plan of action, allowing to define the relevant problems of maternity that compete: meeting with health professionals involved in assisting women in the delivery room, producing and exhibiting banners in strategic locations with the objectives of sensitizing the team, holding conversational groups, discussing scientific articles, establishing a social network, presenting content on slides, culminating with playful activities portraying the change of practices, and the completeness of care. RESULTS: Breastfeeding in the first half hour of life is an infrequent practice, being diverted to after the first hour of the baby's life. There is an increase of cesarean deliveries which makes it difficult to promote breastfeeding in the setting of birth and birth. CONCLUSION: The contact with the skin in the first half hour of life is still a goal to be achieved in this context. Despite the commitment, it is believed that it will require greater participation of all professionals, the restructuring of current practice and existing hospital routine. CONTRIBUTIONS: New research is suggested, analyzing all actors involved, given that the change in practice is also motivated by conceptions, beliefs, and cultural aspects, as well as by the professional's leadership regarding the care of the mother and child binomial. However, it is important to emphasize women's empowerment from the prenatal stage, from an active listening on the benefits of breastfeeding in the first half hour of life, whenever their clinical and newborn conditions allow. | pt_BR |
| pt_BR |
