Abstract: | The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effects of Capsaicin supplementation on the athletes' performance in the Non-Contact Kickboxing Circuit Training Protocol (SKCTP), Heart Rate (HR) and Subjective Effort Perception (PSE). The sample consisted of 7 individuals practicing Kickboxing, (mean age 30.8 ± 6.47 years; height 1.76 ± 0.08 meters; body mass 82.43 ± 28.03 kg) average practice of 13.71 ± 9.21 years), of both sexes (men and women), who were submitted to a randomized, crossed and double blind design: Capsaicin condition (12mg) or Placebo condition. Two separate meetings were held for a week. After ingesting the capsules (Capsaicin or Placebo), the volunteers waited 45 minutes to start the test sessions, which consisted of performing the SKCTP in 3 rounds with 4 blocks in each round, each block lasting 20 seconds and 6 seconds of intervals between blocks and 60 seconds interval from one round to the next. Using the paired t-test, it was verified whether there was a difference in the athletes performance in the SKCTP total number of strokes, FC and PSE, between the two conditions, adopting the significance level of α = 0.05. The total number of strokes delivered was significantly higher in the Capsaicin condition compared to the Placebo condition (369.14 ± 12.10 vs 332.28 ± 31.23, p = 0.03). It was concluded that acute capsaicin supplementation improved the athletes' performance in SKTCP in the total number of strokes performed in comparison to the placebo, but did not present significant statistical differences for FC and PSE. |
