Abstract

This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the semantic limits of what is meant by "urbanistic project" and to demonstrate the variations and the wide range of meaning that this notion allowed, in the 1980s to 1990s, Latin American countries. For that purpose it analyses 26 urban proposals presented and published in the annals of the Fifth Latin American Architecture Seminar (SAL), held in Santiago, Chile, in 1991, whose central theme was "Our Urban Spaces: Morphological Proposals". Developed between the mid-1980s and 1991 (many proposals were still in progress by the time of their presentation), these proposals proved to be a privileged locus for analyzing the penetration of Typomorphology and Urbanistic Project debates, as well as the representations of the practice of urbanism by architects in this period. For this, the present article is structured in three parts. In the first one, we briefly discuss the architectural-urban environment that made possible the conception of a SAL based on the discussion of urbanistic projects. In the second, the adherence of the projects presented to the agenda established by the organizers of the event is verified. In the third and last one, we analyze the different meanings of urbanistic project that appear in the analyzed corpus.
