dc.description.abstract	In this paper, I approach the modernity’s theory of Jesse Souza, that contains in itself a theory about the modernity in general, a theory about the specificity of the peripheral modernity and a theory about the relationship between Brazil and modernity. To do so, I first present the evolution of the fundamental theoretical basis of Jesse Souza. Next, I offer a detailed conceptual picture of that modernity’s theory, emphasizing the conclusion about the relationship between Brazil and modernity. Finally, I put some critical remarks that may contribute to the debate and to future theoretical developments.	pt_BR
dc.description.resumo	Neste artigo, abordo a teoria da modernidade de Jessé Souza, que, por sua vez, compõe-se internamente de uma teoria da modernidade em geral, uma teoria da modernidade especificamente periférica e uma teoria da relação entre Brasil e modernidade. Para tanto, inicialmente apresento a evolução da base teórica fundamental de Jessé Souza. Em seguida, ofereço uma imagem conceitualmente detalhada daquela teoria da modernidade, destacando a conclusão sobre a relação entre Brasil e modernidade. Por fim, coloco alguns comentários críticos que podem contribuir para o debate e para desenvolvimentos teóricos ulteriores.	pt_BR
