| Abstract: | As relíquias sagradas podem ser classificadas em três tipos: restos físicos de mártires e santos; instrumentos de martírio; e relíquias de contato. Do ponto de vista religioso, as relíquias transformaram-se em elementos estratégicos para promover a cristianização de territórios. O fato das relíquias serem transportáveis revelava o meio, por excelência, pelo qual podiam adaptar-se ao corpo da cristandade. Nesse sentido, as relíquias também foram introduzidas na África Central. Este ensaio tem dois objetivos: analisar como as relíquias católicas foram introduzidas na África Central e compreender os usos das relíquias pelos congoleses, a partir da concepção do lugar dos mortos na vida social e religiosa. |
| Abstract: | The holy relics can be classified into three types: physical remains of saints and martyrs; martyrdom instruments; and contact relics. From the religious point of view, the relics became strategic elements to promote Christianizing over territories. The fact that the relics were transportable revealed the means par excellence by which they could adapt to the body of Christianity. Thus, the cult of relics was also introduced in Central Africa. This paper has two objectives: to analyze how Catholic relics were introduced in Central Africa and to understand the Congoleses’ use of these relics from their concepts of the dead in social and religious life. |
