| Abstract: | Baseado em Do governo dos vivos, curso ministrado por Michel Foucault em 1980 no Collège de France e publicado apenas recentemente, em 2012, o artigo pretende acompanhar a leitura realizada do cristianismo primitivo e sua relação com a racionalidade política moderna (lembrando que, na visão de Foucault, regimes de verdade estão sempre articulados a regimes de poder). Assim, Foucault estuda diversos procedimentos de manifestação da verdade e uma série de práticas e dispositivos (como o batismo, a confissão, a penitência e a direção de consciência) que constituem a subjetividade cristã e, por consequência, a subjetividade ocidental. Em sua leitura, Foucault ressalta duas obrigações básicas para o funcionamento do poder pastoral (que tenderá a extrapolar o campo das práticas religiosas para invadir o domínio da política na modernidade): obedecer completamente (nada querer por si mesmo) e nada esconder (dizer tudo sobre si mesmo). |
| Abstract: | Based on On the Government of the Living, a course taught by Michel Foucault in 1980 at the Collège de France and published only recently in 2012, the article intends to follow the reading of early Christianity and its relation to modern political rationality (keeping in mind that in Foucault´s approach regimes of truth are always articulated to regimes of power). Foucault studies different procedures of manifestation of truth and several practices and devices (such as baptism, confession, penance, and the direction of conscience) that constitute Christian subjectivity and, consequently, Western subjectivity. In his reading, Foucault highlights two basic obligations for the functioning of pastoral power (which will tend to extrapolate the field of religious practices to invade the domain of politics in modernity): obey completely (do not want anything by yourself) and do not hide anything (tell all about yourself). |
