Other Titles: | From the child I once was to the children we still are: a statement for the freedom to be |
Abstract: | This essay intends, through a memory exercise and connected to the methodological procedures of brainstorming and inventory, a return to the author's childhood, caused by an encounter with a letter that he wrote to the child he once was, as part of the research and creation process of the Performance-Play-Party #Child. The work, which has as its theme the relationships between identity, gender and playing, was the motivation for writing this self-ethnography to think about ways of being a child as an assumed LGBTQIA+ person and the developments, wounds and scars originating from this experience. Supported by Foucault (2009), Butler (2015a; 2015b), Kennedy (2012), Moriceau and Mendonça (2016), this essay is developed by the performativity of the "writings of oneself" and the method of the "affective turnaround," returning to the past to think from the experience of childhood, and the ways in which the socio-cultural-political norms and structures of gender hurt the freedom of being a child. |
