dc.description.abstract | The main objective of this paper is to identify, reviewing existent literature, the influence of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on one’s maximum aerobic capacity. A total of 26 studies were found, but only 2 of those attended to the necessary criteria. HIIT is a training method that consists in an alternation of high intensity aerobic activities with periods of passive (or active) recovery. It is important to stress that VO2max is the maximum quantity of oxygen the cardiovascular system is capable to deliver to body tissues during an extreme physical activity. However, there are discussions about which physical activity program offers better results for a VO2max increase. After analyzing the studies mentioned above, it has been identified that the intensity, and not volume, can be the most important element for VO2max development. Not only that, when compared to different kinds of physical training, it has been observed that HIIT can also be propitious for other cardiovascular elements, with important emphasis on Maximum Aerobic Power (VO2max). | pt_BR |
| pt_BR |
