Abstract: | Information on the labels are important for guide consumers about food. Resolutions RDC 259 of 20/09/2002 (labeling of packaged food) and RDC 360 of 23/12/2003 (nutrition labeling), from ANVISA / MS, aim to ensure basic information to the consumer. Vegetable oils are widely consumed products, extracted from seeds such as soybeans, canola, corn, sunflower, and others sources, and its consumption has increased due to the functional properties of mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids present. The aim of this study was to evaluate general and nutritional labeling of vegetable oils from different backgrounds and marks, checking adherence to the legislation and optional parameters considered important. We analyzed 35 labels of 20 different brands of canola, sunflower, corn and soybeans, collected in supermarkets in Belo Horizonte - MG. It was concluded that required labeling is being respected, but the additional optional information presented great variation, justifying better standardization by the responsible organs. |
