Obstáculos à internacionalização do ensino superior na perspectiva de docentes: inputs para a gestão acadêmica

Abstract

he objective of this article was to qualitatively explore professors’ perceptions about obstacles to the internationalization of their activities, generating inputs for better academic management. To this end, two groups of professors were formed, much and little internationalized, they were interviewed by means of a semi-structured script and with their opinions intertwined. Data was analyzed using the Content Analysis technique, followed by a theoretical-empirical crossover. The barriers to internationalization raised by professors ranged from the lack of funding from the higher education institution , to the lack of financial subsidies, lack of impact on remuneration, lack of time due to high teaching load, lack of foreign language proficiency, among other obstacles. In addition, suggestions were made for improving academic management regarding to the promotion of internationalization, ranging from more financial subsidies to an increase in the number of agreements, the launch of a greater number of public notices, the promotion of more international events, among other suggestions. Despite the natural limitations of a qualitative research, such as the reduced degree of reproducibility, it is expected that the theoretical foundation of this article, intertwined with its empirical data, have stimulated reflection and deepening about the internationalization of professors, generating information for optimization of academic management in educational organizations.
