Feiras livres: comercialização da agricultura familiar e abastecimento urbano no alto Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais

Abstract

This research analyzes the commercialization dynamics of family farming in free markets in the Territory of Citizenship of Alto Jequitinhonha, with the main objective of investigating the importance of these markets to the supply of municipalities and for food security and sovereignty. To achieve this purpose, 94 marketers and 230 consumers were interviewed in five municipalities. The results indicates that the free markets of Jequitinhonha provide solid revenues that are reverted to the marketer themselves. The consumers have in the market the main purchasing spot for products originated from the municipality or from the territory. The decision for the consumption of fresh products at a more affordable price than in urban commerce, in addition to the variety offered at the market, are some of the factors that contribute to the success and longevity of the markets.
