| Abstract: | Este trabalho tem como objetivo verificar a existência de associação entre a abertura financeira da economia brasileira e o endividamento externo do país. A metodologia utiliza um modelo VAR para medir as interações entre as seguintes variáveis: dívida externa bruta, índice de abertura financeira, índice de globalização econômica, saldo da conta financeira, taxa de câmbio e taxa de juros no período de 1990 a 2015. Os resultados indicam uma significativa interação entre as variáveis: dívida externa bruta e abertura financeira. A dívida responde positivamente aos choques em todas as variáveis, demonstrando que o grau de vulnerabilidade externa do Brasil aumentou frente às crises econômicas após a abertura financeira. |
| Abstract: | This article aims to verify the existence of an association between the financial openness of the Brazilian economy and the country´s foreign indebtedness. The methodology uses a VAR model to measure the interactions between the following variables: Gross external debt, financial opening index, economic globalization index, financial account balance, exchange rate and interest rate, for the period ranging from 1990 to 2015. The results indicate that there is a significant interaction between the variables gross external debt and financial opening. Debt responds positively to shocks in all variables, demonstrating that the degree of external vulnerability of Brazil has increased in the face of economic crises after the financial openness. |
