dc.description.abstractObjective: Realize a literature review about the association between chest physiotherapy and the occurrence of extensive HPIV with consequent impairment of brain parenchyma and developing encephaloclastic porencephaly in preterm infants presenting gestational age (GA) less than 30 weeks and birth weight (BW) less than 1500g. Method: Bibliographic research in the bases Medline, Cochrane, Lilacs, Scielo and Pedro. Key words: chest physiotherapy, premature, brain, haemorrage and their translations into portuguese. The study was restricted in humans, range of time 1990 to 2010, English and Portuguese languages. Results: Have been found 3 studies that investigated the association between chest physiotherapy and encephaloclastic porencephaly, which found as predisposing factors strongly associated with encephaloclastic porencephaly: prematurity or low birthweight. Two studies found an association between chest phisyotherapy, non-cephalic presentation in childbirth and severe hypotention in the first hours of life. However failed to explain the appearance of the lesion or the contribution of each variable. Conclusion: The reviewed studies were inconclusive regarding the association of chest phisyothe rapy with HPIV and encephaloclastic porencephaly. It is necessarie make new studies, that specially investigate its direct association with HPIV, predominant outcomes in neonatal intensive care units. dc.description.resumoObjetivo: Realizar uma revisão bibliográfica acerca da associação entre a fisioterapia respiratória e a ocorrência de HPIV extensas, com conseqüente acometimento do parênquima cerebral e desen volvimento de porencefalia encefaloclástica em recém-nascidos prematuros que apresentem idade gestacional (IG) inferior a 30 semanas e peso ao nascimento (PN) menor que 1500g. Método: Foram realizadas pesquisas bibliográficas por meio das bases de dados Medline, Cochra ne, Lilacs, Scielo e Pedro. As palavras-chaves utilizadas foram: chest physiotherapy, premature, brain, haemorrage e as respectivas traduções para português. Restringiu-se o estudo em seres hu manos, período de tempo de 1990 a 2010, os idiomas inglês e português. Resultados: Foram encontrados 3 estudos, que investigaram a associação entre a fisioterapia respi ratória e a porencefalia encefaloclástica, os quais encontraram como fatores predisponentes forte mente associados à porencefalia encefaloclástica: a prematuridade ou o baixo peso ao nascer. Dois estudos encontraram associação entre fisioterapia respiratória, apresentação não-cefálica na hora do parto e hipotensão grave nas primeiras horas de vida. No entanto não conseguiram explicar o apare cimento da lesão nem qual a contribuição de cada uma das variáveis. Conclusão: Os estudos revisados não foram conclusivos quanto a associação da fisioterapia respira tória com as HPIV e porencefalia encefaloclástica. Há necessidade de realização de novos estudos, principalmente que investiguem sua direta associação com as HPIV, desfechos predominantes nas unidades de terapia intensiva neonatal.pt_BR
