Efeitos das bandagens terapêuticas nas desordens do joelho: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

Changes in the biomechanics of the knee joint can influence the function of the lower limbs leading to limiting symptoms. Several interventions have been proposed for physical therapy to minimize the effects of these changes and various techniques of therapeutic taping have been applied to it. The use of taping in knees was initially proposed for the treatment of patellofemoral pain and is now widespread, especially in the care of athletes. Nevertheless, the effects of these techniques and the mechanisms of action are not yet established. Thus, the objective of this study was investigate the therapeutic effects of taping in the main disorders of the knee in order to guide clinical practice and future studies. A literature review was performed through the electronic search of articles indexed in the databases CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, PubMed and Scielo databases using the words 'knee taping' and 'Kinesio taping’. The rigid patellar taping showed reducing pain effect in individuals with patellofemoral syndrome and osteoarthritis and also improves biomechanical changes in individuals with patellofemoral syndrome. However, there are conflicting results about its effects in the temporal characteristics of activation of vastus medialis oblique (VMO) and vastus lateralis (VL), patellar alignment and joint proprioception. The neuromuscular taping (or elastic tape) is still poorly studied (only three studies), but showed a positive effect on the bioelectric activity of the VMO muscle and the maintenance of effects for more than 48 hours after the removal. The therapeutic taping proves to be a very useful technique for clinical practice. However, there are several application techniques and few of them had their effects and mechanisms described in the literature.
