Sentimentos vivenciados pela família do paciente internado em centros de terapia intensiva

Abstract

The relative's hospitalization in an intensive care unit - ICU usually happens in a sudden way. Due to that stressful situation the relatives find themselves disorganized, abandoned and with difficulty to mobilize themselves casing the appearance ot different types of feelings. Thus, in this study it was sought to answer the following question: what are the feelings experienced by the family of a patient admitted in an intensive care unit? Hence, the objective of identifying these feelings was estabilished and therefore this work is an integrative revision of the literature on that theme. This study was composed of 12 papers and one thesis obtained in a search through the following data bases LILACS and MEDLINE, in the Virtual portal of papers SCIELO, in Virtual Library of Dissertations and Thesis of the University of São Paulo - USP and suggested by specialist. It was verified that most of those studies were accomplished by nurses and they had Brazil, United States and Australia as publication countries. The results showed the following feelings: anxiety, concern, anguish, sadness and impotence, fear of death,pain, sorrow, feeling of loss, panic, guilt, despair, disenchantment and hopelessness, frustration, concern, feeling of impotence, pity, trust, safety, happiness, satisfaction, gratitude, insecurity, faith, hope, love, ambiguous and inexplicable feeling. According to the results it was possible to say that the hospitalization evokes several feelings in the relatives. It is necessary that the health care team understands what the family feels due to the admittance of a family member in intensive care 50 they can best direct their actions.
