dc.description.abstractEste estudo usa um modelo DEA de dois estágios para avaliar a eficiência dos países que participaram do Rio 2016 Jogos Olímpicos. Na primeira etapa, calculamos as pontuações de eficiência usando o número de atletas como entrada, e os números de medalhas de ouro, prata e bronze conquistadas por cada país como saídas. Na segunda etapa, analisamos os efeitos de fatores econômicos, demográficos e políticos sobre as pontuações de eficiência. Mostramos que o PIB e baixos níveis de democracia também estão positivamente associados a pontuações de eficiência, especialmente nos países menos eficientespt_BR
dc.description.resumoThis study uses a two-stage DEA model to evaluate the efficiency of countries that participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In the first stage, we calculated the efficiency scores using the number of athletes as the input, and the numbers of gold, silver, and bronze medals earned by each country as the outputs. In the second stage, we analyzed the effects of economic, demographic, and political factors on the efficiency scores. We show that GDP and low levels of democracy are also positively associated with efficiency scores, especially in the less efficient countriespt_BR
