dc.description.abstract	This paper introduces the issue of fire in the cultural heritage, especially the difficulties of interventions necessary to guarantee fire safety in heritage buildings. Presents some of the main examples of fires in this type of building occurred in Brazil, the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage, the need to protect it from possible fires and the devastating consequences of this type of disaster in the heritage buildings. The article also introduces the term Fire Science as a concept that covers several areas of knowledge related to this type of disaster, one of which is the preservation of cultural heritage.	pt_BR
dc.description.resumo	Este trabalho introduz a questão do incêndio no Patrimônio Cultural Edificado, em especial as dificuldades de intervenções necessárias para garantir a segurança contra incêndio em edificações acauteladas (protegidas). Apresenta alguns dos principais exemplos de incêndios nesse tipo de edificação ocorridos no Brasil, conceitua a importância da preservação do patrimônio cultural, a necessidade de protegê-lo de possíveis incêndios e as consequências devastadoras deste tipo de sinistro nas edificações acauteladas. O artigo também introduz o termo Ciência do Incêndio como conceito que abrange diversas áreas do conhecimento afins a este tipo de desastre, sendo uma delas a preservação do patrimônio cultural.	pt_BR
