dc.description.abstract	The purpose of this article is to analyze the main characteristics of the name negócio in 18th century Brazilian Portuguese. This research was motivated by the observation made by Amaral and Ramos (2014), who suggest that the 18th century seems to have been the initial phase of negócio grammaticalization, going from lexical to general name. There is evidence that negócio was used as a synonym for coisa, a general name par excellence, still in Latin, which leads us to assume that negócio grammaticalization is older than we imagine and that it has already entered into Portuguese with the status of general noun.	pt_BR
dc.description.resumo	O objetivo deste artigo foi analisar as características do nome negócio no português setecentista. Esta pesquisa foi motivada pela observação feita por Amaral e Ramos (2014), que sugerem que o século XVIII parece ter sido a fase inicial da gramaticalização de negócio, passando de nome lexical a geral. Há evidências de que negócio era utilizado como sinônimo de coisa, nome geral por excelência, ainda no latim, o que nos leva a supor que a gramaticalização de negócio seja mais antiga do que imaginamos e que negócio tenha entrado para o português já com o estatuto de nome geral.	pt_BR
