Novas tendências em catalogação: o novo paradigma da catalogação a partir da modelagem conceitual

Abstract

From the areas that compose the information treatment, cataloging should be a great period of stagnation, after the emergence of AACR, ISBD and MARC. This paradigm shift that has occurred in cataloging in recent years has brought many questions about how to adapt old catalogs to the new format proposed by the RDA standard, without generating a large volume of rework. To answer these questions, the in-depth study of this new proposal is essential, as it will ensure a more coherent and consistent implementation, bringing library catalogs, and digital repositories and libraries to the next level, based in cutting-edge technology. This paper proposes to discuss the place of cataloging in the organization of information and its current perspectives. Through the review of the literature of the area, brings the new trends of cataloging nowadays and its main challenges. It presents the cataloging as an essential research theme for the development of information retrieval systems of the future. It suggests controversial issues that need a greater discussion among professionals and the area's theorists, so that cataloguing can be consolidated through the effective use of information and communication technologies Key-words: cataloging, conceptual modeling, user-centric information organization, metadata standards for cataloging.
