dc.description.abstractIn different passages of Memórias do Cárcere (1953), Graciliano Ramos refers to current events in Spain, relating what happens there with the political situation in Brazil under the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas. For the enemies of the Brazilian dictatorial regime, the victory of the Spanish Republic in the Civil War represented also the possibility of democracy in their country. This being so, the news coming from Spain are accompanied with enthusiasm by Graciliano Ramos and his fellow prisoners, although local newspapers reflect the Vargas government’s official view, which was in favor of the military uprising led by General Franco. The proposal of this work is, therefore, to analyze the images of Spain and the anti-fascist struggle in this country presented in the work of a Brazilian writer.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoEn diferentes momentos de Memórias do Cárcere (1953) Graciliano Ramos se refiere a los acontecimientos en curso en España, relacionando lo que allí sucede con la situación política de Brasil bajo la dictadura de Getúlio Vargas. Para los enemigos del régimen dictatorial brasileño la victoria de la República Española en la guerra civil representaba la posibilidad de un régimen democrático también en su propio país. Por ello, aunque los periódicos locales reflejaban la visión oficial del gobierno Vargas, que tenía una posición favorable al levantamiento militar encabezado por el general Franco, Graciliano Ramos y sus compañeros de cárcel seguían con verdadero entusiasmo las noticias que llegaban de España. La propuesta de este trabajo es, por lo tanto, analizar las imágenes de España y de la lucha antifascista en ese país presentes en la obra del escritor brasileño.pt_BR
