| Abstract: | Esta tese visa avançar a discussão sobre a relação entre os evangélicos e a cultura secular. Tomam-se como objeto as ações de um importante ator do universo religioso – o Diante do Trono (DT), formado e liderado pela cantora e pastora Ana Paula Valadão. A análise é feita por meio de consulta a fontes secundárias, realização de entrevistas e observação participante. Explora-se a ênfase teológica da banda na batalha espiritual/Teologia do Domínio, as inovações no campo fonográfico-midiático e as prescrições de gênero defendidas. Dados do contexto protestante estadunidense complementam a abordagem. Conclui-se que as iniciativas do DT, bem como o sucesso alcançado, são decorrentes de uma posição subcultural que, segundo a teoria de Christian Smith, é marcada pela junção de evidente diferenciação e engajamento na sociedade abrangente. |
| Abstract: | This dissertation aims to further the discussion on the relation of Protestants and secular culture. The subject is the actions of an important actor of the religious realm – the Before the Throne (BT), composed and led by Ana Paula Valadão. The analysis is done by bibliographical research, interviews and participant observation. It is explored the band’s theological emphasis on spiritual warfare/Dominion Theology, their innovations on the music industry and on media, and the gender prescriptions advocated by them. Data on American Protestant context complement the approach. The conclusion is that DT’s initiatives, as well as the success achieved, are due to a subcultural position. Following Christian Smith’s theory, there is a mix of clear differentiation with engagement in the broader society |
