O que podemos aprender sobre a conexão entre gênero e raça lendo a RELAP e a REBEP?

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to analyze if, and how, the connection between gender and race is treated in the scientific production published in the Revista Latinoamericana de Población (Relap) and in the Revista Brasileira de Estudos de População (Rebep). Specifically, this work intends to answer four central questions: i) What is it possible to learn about gender and race from Relap and Rebep? ii) What methodological approaches have been most used in the works? iii) Where are the authors from and what institutions do they belong to? iv) What are the topics covered and how are the connections between the two variables of interest made? Original articles, research notes, points of view, dossiers and reviews, among others, published in Relap and Rebep between 2007 and 2019 are analyzed, in a total of 432 texts in Rebep and 155 in Relap. Three groups of words were used to search for material of interest and included: inequality; gender (man, woman, gender relations, identity); race (indigenous, black). The central words, and those related to them, were sought in the title, abstract and keywords of studies published since 2007 in the two journals in question. The technique chosen for the analysis of the selected material was Content Analysis. 45 articles were selected in Relap and 60 in Rebep. The 45 texts published in Relap with the theme of gender and race analyzed in this article were produced by 94 authors and co-authors linked to 37 different institutions. The 60 publications under review by Rebep were written by 114 authors and co-authors, affiliated with 46 different institutions. As for the themes, those related to the labor market, social security, abortion, health and the indigenous population stand out.
