| Abstract: | O artigo examina os diferentes desenvolvimentos filosóficos dados ao empirismo por Benjamin Constant e David Hume. Para Constant, o conhecimento derivado das sensações dá origem a uma Filosofia da História de caráter progressivo e irreversível. Para Hume, esse conhecimento acarreta um ceticismo filosófico que nega a ideia de causalidade. Embora raciocinem a partir de pressupostos empiristas e concluam ideias radicalmente diferentes, ambos argumentam de maneira semelhante ao discorrerem sobre os conceitos de sacrifício e crença. |
| Abstract: | The article investigates the different philosophical developments given to empiricism by Benjamin Constant and David Hume. For Constant, knowledge derived from sensations gives rise to a progressive and irreversible Philosophy of History. For Hume, this knowledge entails a philosophical skepticism that denies the idea of causality. Although they reason from empiricist assumptions and conclude radically different ideas, they both argue in a similar way when discussing the concepts of sacrifice and belief. |
