Other Titles: | The education unions in the face of the challenges of the new public management |
Authors: | Dalila Andrade Oliveira |
Abstract: | This article discusses, from research data, the work of teachers in basic education in Pernambuco, a state in Brazil, as the unions were able to respond to the expectations of their representatives regarding the new demands presented by the New Public Management (NPM). It considers that the results policies brought by the NGP, which link the remuneration of the professionals with the performance of the students, have put to the test the capacity of the union to dispute ideologically the work place. Based on the data obtained in the research, it seeks to analyze the workers› adhesion to the union and the reasons that may lead workers to unionize or not. As a result, it is important to emphasize that the new generations have the lowest rate of unionization and participation in the activities proposed by the union, coinciding with the evidence found in other national realities, as demonstrated in the specific literature. Finally, the text attempts to interpret the challenges faced by trade unions. |
