| Abstract: | O processo de construção da identidade coletiva acontece quando um grupo de indivíduos, em um determinado contexto histórico, apresenta características que o marcam como idêntico a si mesmo e diferente de outros. Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar os atributos identitários que caracterizam a profissão médica. Foi realizado um estudo transversal por meio de levantamento (survey), com a aplicação da Escala de Auto e Heropercepção Profissional em uma amostra de 295 médicos residentes de três hospitais de ensino. A análise estatística envolveu a verificação da linearidade dos dados e análise descritiva dos itens da escala. Os médicos identificaram sua profissão principalmente como Produtiva, Desgastante, Trabalhadora, Árdua, Dedicada, Inteligente e Estudiosa. No que se refere a heteropercepção eles informaram que a sociedade concede mais Prestígio e Renome a profissão do que eles próprios. O estudo evidencia que apesar de se sentirem respeitados e admirados pela sociedade, os médicos se ressentem da perda de prestígio social da profissão e de falta de humanização dos profissionais na relação com seus pacientes. |
| Abstract: | The collective identity construction process happens when a group of individuals in a given historical context has characteristics that mark it as identical to itself and different from others. This study aimed to identify the identity attributes that characterize the medical profession. A cross-sectional study was carried out by means of a survey, with the application of the Scale of Professional Self and Hero-Perception in a sample of 295 resident physicians from three teaching hospitals. The statistical analysis involved verifying the linearity of the data and descriptive analysis of the scale items. Doctors identified their profession mainly as Productive, Exhausting, Hardworking, Dedicated, Intelligent and Studious. Regarding heteroperception, they report that society grants more prestige and Renown to the profession than they do. The study shows that, despite feeling respected and admired by society, doctors resent the loss of social prestige of the profession and the lack of humanization of professionals in the relationship with their patients. |
