Abstract

The purpose of the article is to argue that the collection, whether physical or digital, is an attempt to avoid excess information and still provide the possibility of organised and systematised knowledge, in addition to problematising the importance of the professional work of librarians in relation to the mediation of information. Therefore, what is proposed is the analysis of the e-book acquisition models in relation to some uses already mapped in the context of libraries, especially those in America, but also those in Brazil and Europe. In relation to the modus operandi of the work, articles will be mapped out dealing with these themes in relation to the concept of the act of collecting, thought of as an extended form of the processes of selection, acquisition, organisation and dissemination of documents/information. In particular, articles dealing with the discussion of the appropriation and use of e-books and their socio-cultural implications related to the collector's act. The discussion of the theme intends to bring, as an implication, a contribution to the replacement of mediation as something that is also important in the digital context of the information. Thus, it is concluded that the act of collecting is placed in this space, as a concept that wants to find the socio-cultural implications of the arrangements and repertoires of organised knowledge, especially in libraries, trying to overcome the support barrier as a conditioner of meaning and practice in the scope of their actions.
