Treinamento resistido. Osteoartrite de joelho. |
Abstract: | Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic and degenerative joint disease. Strength training is essential for the treatment of knee OA; however, high intensity training may have consequences that lead to low adherence to treatment. Blood flow restriction training (TRFS) may improve knee OA symptoms more effectively and without discomfort. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of resistance training associated with blood flow restriction on pain and function of patients with knee OA, compared to conventional resistance training with low and high intensity. Methods: Search was conducted in the PEDro database on may 2022, without language restriction. Risk of bias was assessed with the PEDro scale, and data on characteristics of participants and interventions, and outcomes measures were extracted. A qualitative approach was used to describe results. Results: A total of 5 studies with 206 participants were included. In general, results showed positive effects on the outcomes analyzed. TRFS was equivalent to conventional resistance training in improving pain and function of patients with knee OA. Conclusion: Low intensity TRFS has positive effect on pain and function of patients with knee OA, and these effects are equivalent to conventional resistance training with low and high intensity. Keywords: Vascular occlusion. Blood flow restriction. Resistance training. Knee osteoarthritis. |
