Manuscritos da fé sob uma lupa: aspectos da bibliografia material face à coleção de livros de horas da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (Brasil)

Abstract

The Material Bibliography has as its primary purpose the study of the materiality of the book. This research aims to present and indicate some of the aspects of the Material Bibliography in the face of the Books of Hours of the National Library Foundation (Brazil). For this purpose, a literature review of the theme Material Bibliography was carried out, and the mapping and presentation of some research instruments that dealt with the representation of the Books of Hours Collection was performed. It is considered that the Material Bibliography contributes to the analyses of the elements that surround the Books of Hours of the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (Brazil): a) elements of the History of the Book(in its social and cultural dimension); b) elements of the production of the book; c) elements regarding the description of the graphic and material aspects of the edition; d) elements regarding the description of the formal aspects of the copy. It is concluded that the methodology of studies (analysis and description) of the Material Bibliography are also relevant for the studies of manuscript documents and can be associated with the methodologies of Codicology in order to expand the perspectives of studies of graphic documents, especially in the field of Brazilian Librarianship.
