Abstract: | TO THE EDITOR—We thank Gómez Marín for the comments. Regarding the question raised, our study was part of a population-based investigation on neonatal screening for toxoplasmosis, with a lack of prenatal treatment being the rule. Blood samples were collected when newborns were brought for confirmatory serologic testing [1] and before initiation of postnatal treatment. Our results prompted local authorities to establish a prenatalscreening program for congenital toxoplasmosis in our state, to provide prenatal treatment and possibly decrease the burden of the disease. Analysis of the immune response of these children after 1 year of postnatal treatment is nearly completed, and we are curious to know whether and how antiparasitic drugs may have affected immune responses to Toxoplasma gondii in these individuals. These results, when available, will hopefully shed further light into the immunopathogenesis and optimal immunomodulation of this infection. Notes Financial support.
