Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains the leading cause of maternal death. Qualitative studies in developing countries demonstrate the widespread acceptance and expansion of the use of handmade intra-uterine balloons (IUB) for effective treatment of PPH.2–4 The present study describes the Alves handmade IUB. This new IUB was created by using two nasogastric probes (Embramed, São Paulo, Brazil), three non-lubricated male condoms, a urinary collector, surgical wires, and adhesive tape. One of the probes connects to the balloon axis and the other integrates the drainage system. With the surgical wires, three condoms are attached to the distal end of the first probe. The two nasogastric probes are joined, in parallel, after the distal end of the balloon with the surgical wires and further down with the adhesive tape. The proximal end of the nasogastric probe, used as the blood drain age system,is connected to the urinary collector by a latex segment.pt_BR
